till miss each other completely. Because great rope isn't just built with
skill. It's built with context. Communication. Connection. The ability to
understand not just what you're doing with rope\, but what kind of experie
nce you're creating together. The same tie can be a lesson\, a performance
\, an experiment\, an act of service\, an intimate conversation\, or a sha
red adventure. The rope may be identical. The dance is not. And yet many o
 f us move through workshops\, jams\, private sessions\, performances\, and
casual practice as though the same rules apply everywhere. We negotiate t
he same way. Communicate the same way. Expect the same things from our par
tners. That's often where the disconnect begins. Not because anyone lacks
technique or experience\, but because two people are responding to entirel
y different invitations. One person arrives seeking depth while the other
is playing. One is performing for a room while the other believes they're
sharing something private. In this class\, we'll explore the invisible lay
er beneath technique—the forces that shape how rope feels\, what it mean
s\, and what it asks of us. Together we'll discover: • How to recognise
the context you're stepping into\, and how to move with it rather than aga
inst it. • Why context changes everything—from negotiation and communi
cation to trust\, intimacy\, and expectation. • How different environmen
ts create different risk profiles\, and how to navigate them with awarenes
s and confidence. • How Laban's effort theory can transform the way you
model\, tie\, respond\, and communicate through the body. • Why communic
ation\, check-ins\, feedback\, and aftercare aren't fixed protocols but li
ving tools that should fit the experience you're creating. • What rigger
s truly need from models\, what models truly need from riggers\, and how t
hose needs differ across different situations in which we do rope. Whether
you're new to rope or have years of experience\, this class will give you
a new lens through which to understand what and how you create together.
