baku Study Group is a monthly research meeting and practice lab for interm
ediate to advanced practitioners who want to deepen their understanding of
rope beyond repeating fixed patterns. Each session approaches Kinbaku as
a field of study\, exploring emotional depth and proficiency through parti
al and semi-suspension. The aim is not simply to complete a sequence\, but
to understand why it works\, how it can be adapted\, and what changes whe
n it meets a different body\, intention or moment. We will examine the rel
ationship between the visible construction of rope and the invisible layer
of sensation while working with structure\, balance\, line placement\, bo
dy mechanics and the intelligent use of gravity. How each session works Ea
ch session begins with an opening conversation and a technical framing of
the month’s theme. A demonstrated sequence\, concept or “problem to in
vestigate” then becomes the starting point for hands-on exploration. The
content changes monthly and is shaped as a progressive inquiry rather tha
n a fixed curriculum. Participants are encouraged to approach the material
as a study group rather than a workshop of replication: ask questions\, t
est variations and develop informed responses in real time. This is a prac
tice-based research environment rather than a demonstration of technical p
roficiency. Participants are not expected to produce identical results. Di
fferent bodies\, relationships and intentions generate different solutions
. Who this is for The group is suitable for established tying pairs with a
confident understanding of core rope suspension techniques. Those tying s
hould be comfortable with secure harnesses\, suspension lines\, basic line
management and active risk assessment. Those being tied should have prior
experience with full suspension\, a developed awareness of their communic
ation needs\, and the ability to describe changes in sensation clearly and
continuously. If you are unsure whether this class is for you\, email cn@
conoraphilia.com. Safety\, consent and communication Safety\, consent and
ongoing communication remain central throughout. We will work with nerve a
wareness\, circulation\, loading principles\, emergency procedures and the
shared responsibility involved in working above the floor. Attention will
be given not only to technical safety\, but also to the emotional and rel
ational dynamics that emerge under pressure. About your teacher Conor Aphi
lia is a full-time rope practitioner\, creator and educator based in Londo
 n. Throughout his career\, he has worked with hundreds of clients\, many o
f whom are new to the practice. His professional experience informed his s
tyle and led him to develop an intentional\, body-centric approach that is
beginner-focused and accessible. Practical details Rope will be provided
and is also available to buy at the studio. Wear clothes you feel comforta
ble moving in. Jeans and tight clothing may restrict movement. The studio
is at Cable Street Studios. Ticket holders will receive a contact phone nu
mber for entry to the studio complex. Tickets can be transferred or refund
ed up to 7 days before the event. After that\, tickets are non-refundable.
